Wildlings at the Gate

After years of diplomacy, deceit, and defeat, Mance Rayder had finally amassed enough strength to challenge the colossal Wall of the Seven Kingdoms. Hundreds of feet high, made of impenetrable ice, the Wall had never been breached... but there had also never been an army amassed such as this one. Mammoths, giants, Thenns, cave dwellers, bear riders, chariots, spearwives, skinchangers. Tens of thousands of warriors, joined together with a solitary purpose: survival. There was nothing any crow or kneeler or king could do to stop them. It was the south or extinction.

The Story

"When the sun has come up, the free folk bring in a ram. The wildling line is centered by a hundred or more mammoths with giants on their backs, and more giants beside them. Horsemen, archers, and men with spears, slings, clubs, and leathern shields march on either side of the giants, and bone chariots from the Frozen Shore make up the flanks."

Gameplay & Strategy

Wildlings at the Gate is the second part of a trilogy of book-inspired scenarios based around the Battle for the Wall, along with Attack on Castle Black and Battle Beneath the Wall.

Once again, the Night’s Watch will play a defensive role while the Free Folk player throws everything and the kitchen sink at their enemy. Giants could be a huge problem if they reach the Wall, so make sure they don't stomp past your defensive line.

Originally, this scenario was a little more gimmicky with a predetermined list of Night's Watch units deploying on wither flank table edge at the beginning of each round, but those rules proved to be too swingy and led to some quick one-sided game. I decided that it would be better to use this event from the book to instead highlight unique units from both factions: Free Folk monsters and Builder siege weapons.

This is a fan-made scenario inspired by CMON Limited’s A Song of Ice & Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game and is in no way associated with CMON.
