Theon tucked his hands behind his back. He didn’t want his father to see that he was trembling.
Lord Balon paced slowly. "Casterly Rock has never fallen."
"Until now." Theon smiled. And how sweet that will be.
"Lord Tywin is too cunning by half, and King Robb the Boy is not likely to subjugate the Westerlands with his fishy harlots and little pup..."
Theon swallowed. Was his father truly this delusional? This bitter? This foolish?
"We will strike at Lannisport and the Rock, and pillage all that our ships can hold. If Casterly Rock falls, as you preposterously dream, you will be the one charged with holding it... with King Robb’s own men. All the trout and bears and pups he can muster. I will take the gold, then after the war, you will give me the Rock that the ironborn paid for with fire and sword. When that time comes, we will see if your blood is still salt and iron. If I lose a son, it will not be the first time."
Theon stepped towards Balon. "I am ironborn, father. I will make you proud."
"Make me rich." Balon grunted and left the solar.
The Story
"The Casterlys of antiquity built a ringfort on the peak, and as millenia have passed its natural defenses have been expanded with walls, gates, and watchtowers. The base of the Rock contains large sea-carved caverns. The stone has been mined for thousands of years, so there are hundreds of mineshafts in the depths of the Rock, as well as yet untouched gold veins."
Gameplay & Strategy
I use the Plateaus a lot when designing custom scenarios, but that's because high ground and low ground is such an important part of so many of these memorable events or locations. In this case, I wanted to represent the impenetrable nature of Casterly Rock, so I thought 2 large rocky structures would do the trick. I absolutely love the Ted Naismith painting of Casterly Rock (seen on the cover of the Siege of Casterly Rock scenario). It's fun to look at it and theorize how an army might approach it. For the Greyjoys, I'm sure they would try to enter the castle through the port. For the Greyjoy player in this scenario, I think you'll want to avoid the Plateaus entirely and focus on gaining some Siege Strategy cards early. The Lannister player might set up too defensively, so take your time making your move and only strike when you think you can take them down a rank.
This is a fan-made scenario inspired by CMON Limited’s A Song of Ice & Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game and is in no way associated with CMON.
