Battle of Oxcross

Dozens of Lannister men cried out, but their calls were overwhelmed by the thunder of the stampede. Greatjon Umber and his eager soldiers watched the chaos unfold from under the boughs of a nearby forest-line. A panicked horse crashed into a Lannister tent, bodying two Lannister soldiers violently to the ground before becoming entangled and crumpling into the mud. Just as one Lannister man unraveled himself from the splintered tent, Grey Wind leapt out of the darkness and tore out his throat.

"Grey Wind has it right," the Greatjon roared. "Best go kill some Lannisters before the ponies get them all!"

The Umber soldiers beat their chest and shouted curses as they stormed into battle.

The Story

"Thinking himself safe in his own lands, Stafford does not bother to set sentries. During the night, Robb sends men to cut the lines that hold Stafford's horses. When Robb sets loose Grey Wind, the horses are maddened by the scent and trample tents and men alike while trying to flee."

Gameplay & Strategy

There are several Stark vs. Lannister conflicts I've already created custom scenarios for, so it's important that each new one has a unique feel. That's why I chose Greatjon Umber as the Stark commander for Battle of Oxcross, even though Robb or the Blackfish may technically be the more 'accurate' choices. I've only used commander Greatjon once before in a scenario (albeit with a stand-in model in the Taking of Deepwood Motte), so I thought this would be a good showcase for an underused commander. The other thing that makes this scenario unique is the "Wolf in the Night" rule, which gives the Stark player a marked advantage. The Lannister player will have to strategize several turns in advance to make sure their cavalry units don't flee in terror from Grey Wind.

This is a fan-made scenario inspired by CMON Limited’s A Song of Ice & Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game and is in no way associated with CMON.
