What If? The Pack Survives

Robb ascended High Heart and surveyed the surrounding fields. The hill would be the perfect location to confront the Lannister army that had been stalking them for days. Grey Wind prodded Robb's side. "What is it, boy?" The direwolf raced away, leaping down the hill to something unseen.

Two scouts hurried towards the King in the North. "The Lannisters?" Robb guessed.

"No, my Lord," a scout answered. "It was the stag, enveloped by a heart aflame." A heart aflame? Before Robb could reply, he saw Grey Wind return with another direwolf by his side, an albino with snow white fur and blood red eyes.

"Ghost?"

The Story

One of the coolest 'What If?' discussions has always been what might have happened if Jon Snow left the Night's Watch and joined up with Robb during his campaign in the riverlands. The easy answer is that Jon would have been killed at the Red Wedding, but we know Jon has a bigger part to play in the story (his total inaction in Season 8 not withstanding). Maybe Robb would have been successful against the Lannisters, or maybe Jon could take up the murderous mantle of Lady Stoneheart.

This scenario is based around Jon joining Robb while the Stark army sets up camp atop High Heart, waiting for a Lannister army that's in pursuit. While waiting to confront the Lannisters, another foe appears: Stannis Baratheon. Stannis has decided to take the battle to the field and remove Tywin Lannister from the equation. With Tywin dead, Stannis believes the lords of Westeros will abandon Joffrey and flock to his banner.

"High Heart is a very tall hill sacred to the children of the forest in the riverlands. Around its crown stands a ring of thirty-one weirwood stumps. The hill is considered a safe place due to its relative height compared to the very flat surrounding land, making it nearly impossible to be approached unseen."

Gameplay & Strategy

For 3 player games, you generally want to keep the points down for each side as a 120-point or 150-point battle may take a very long time to play. But if you have the time, you could certainly make this scenario as expansive and wild as your imagination. Much of the gameplay will be dictated by the point-scoring cards drawn, so maybe wait a turn or two before you begin to think of alliances (and eventual betrayal).

This is a fan-made scenario inspired by CMON Limited’s A Song of Ice & Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game and is in no way associated with CMON.
