The Blackwater Aflame

The two large hulls crashed together. Hundreds of planks cracked and splintered. The wood groaned. Hungry flames shrouded the sky in dark green smoke. CRRRAAAACK! The ship's mast plummeted through the toxic veil, crashing into the black rushing waters below. Tyrion fell to his knees, exhausted. The deck shifted violently. Ser Mandon Moore took the opportunity to cut the throat of a stumbling Baratheon soldier. They thought it was courage that brought them to fight on this perilous bridge of ships, but now they knew it must have been madness. They would all die, whether by fire or water or blade.

The Story

"Tyrion manages to disperse the attackers at the King's Gate and makes for the Mud Gate. When Ser Balon Swann points out that the galleys on the river which had smashed into each other have tangled together, creating a bridge of ships, which is being used by Stannis' boldest knights to cross the river, they take the fight to the riverfront."

Gameplay & Strategy

This is the third scenario in the Blackwater series. For this scenario, you will want as many Combat Units as possible since your units will be dropping like flies. Only your highest Morale units will be able to survive the dangerous bridge of ships. You also have to be cognizant of defending your shoreline. If the enemy ever maneuvers a combat unit into your deployment zone, they will score 3 victory points at the end of the round. Always keep in mind that you can move across the river, even though it is extremely punishing. It might be a strong late game desperation move if you think there is no other way you can win.

This scenario requires a lot of unique terrain. For the Blackwater Rush, I use two dark blue pieces of Bristol board that cover 16” x 48”. For the ships, I suggest using pieces of cardboard or a printout, something that can lie flat across the river, around 10" wide.

This is a fan-made scenario inspired by CMON Limited’s A Song of Ice & Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game and is in no way associated with CMON.
