Storming of the Crag

Robb Stark was a battlefield savant, outflanking his Lannister foes in several decisive victories. Yet the King in the North could not outmaneuver the backroom schemes that led to his ignoble downfall. The Storming of the Crag custom scenario captures Robb Stark’s battlefield brilliance... and his lack of political foresight.

The Story

"After the taking of Ashemark, along with other westermen castles and three gold mines, the Starks move on to the Crag as part of King Robb Stark's plan to draw Lord Tywin Lannister west and out of the riverlands. The castellan of the weakly-garrisoned castle is Ser Rolph Spicer."

Gameplay & Strategy

Originally, this custom scenario had the Stark player using 0 NCUs and the Lannister player would roll a D3 at the beginning of each round to use either Littlefinger, Varys, or both. While it was a nice idea to tie-in Robb Stark's focus on the battlefield versus his ignorance of the political machinations that led to his downfall, in the end it was too difficult to make a 0 NCU army fun and balanced. The Honed & Ready game mode is a perfect replacement to recreate the quick and violent siege that takes place at the Crag.

The Lannister player now takes 3 NCUs (Tywin, Littlefinger, and Varys) and 1 Castle Wall, totalling 18 points. Instead of simply limiting the Starks to 0 NCUs, this is a more balanced way to ensure the Lannister player's focus is on the tactics board while the Stark player is focused on the battlefield.

The Crag Castle Wall will likely not see much action, but it serves a few purposes. It further limits the Lannisters field presence, while acting as a ticking clock that forces the Starks to play more aggressively.

This is a fan-made scenario inspired by CMON Limited’s A Song of Ice & Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game and is in no way associated with CMON.
