Siege of Storm's End

A shadow loomed over Ser Cortnay Penrose as he led the garrison of Storm’s End. Every whisper seemed a threat, each guardsman a possible Stannis loyalist waiting for his chance to strike. With each day that passed, he slept little and ate less.

Cortnay looked out across Shipbreaker Bay as the sun disappeared, a moment of respite in a day filled with dread. The only sound was that of the unrelenting tempest, waves thrashing rocks and wind bellowing along the cliffs. This castle has withstood the wrath of the gods. Cortnay thought. It will withstand you, Stannis Baratheon, and your fire witch.

The sound of his thoughts seemed to echo across the raging waters. Ser Cortnay turned suddenly, and everywhere he looked there were shadows in the dark.

The Story

"The siege continues as Storm's End's castellan, Ser Cortnay Penrose, refuses to yield the castle to Stannis because he fears for the safety of King Robert I's bastard son Edric Storm. During a parley beneath the walls, Cortnay offers single combat with a champion of Stannis's choosing, but is rebuffed by the king."

Gameplay & Strategy

The Second Siege of Storm’s End utilizes the Siege Warfare mechanic. The Defending player will remain largely static, guarding the Castle Walls and doing what they can to hold onto the Castle Wall Objective tokens. The Defender needs to utilize their Activation advantage given to you by the 2 Castle Walls. Plot your opponent’s moves in advance and take advantage of already Activated enemy units.

To counteract the Activation and defensive advantage of Team Renly, Stannis has access to a special shadow assassin special rule that can take out commander Cortnay Penrose with one roll of the die. But the Stannis player must be wary, as the shadow could also be a serious drain on the One True King’s own unit.
