Invasion of the Shield Islands

Violent winds battered Oakenshield's beacon tower. The watchman struggled in vain to light the fire.

"Get down here, now!" cried a guard down below. "They'll... argh!"

The watchman slammed the trap door shut. His torch was dying against the windstorm. He had precious few moments to light the beacon fire before the torch would extinguish, and all hope along with it.

The trap door cracked open. Victarion Greyjoy pulled himself up to the tower roof, followed by three reavers. The Iron Captain strode toward the watchman, great axe in hand. Victarion took the torch from his quivering hands, and the watchman turned and cowered against the cold battlements. The watchman trembled, waiting for an ironborn axe to split his head. A few moments passed, yet there was no axe stroke. The watchman opened his eyes. The ironborn were attempting to light the beacon fire themselves. Finally, the flame caught amongst the kindling and soon after the fire roared. Victarion turned to the watchman and dropped the torch at his feet.

"Let them come."

The Story

"When Euron Greyjoy is chosen at the kingsmoot on Old Wyk, he promises to conquer the Seven Kingdoms and return the ironborn as a significant power. His first strike will be a surprise attack on the unguarded Reach, whose armies are campaigning in the crownlands, riverlands, and stormlands whilst their main naval force (the Redwyne fleet) is besieging Dragonstone and Storm's End."

Gameplay & Strategy

Victarion fighting Ser Talbert Serry after boarding his ship is one of my favorite chapters in the book and I really wanted to design a scenario around it. Since this is a naval/land conflict, I wanted to add an element to give the Greyjoys a nice boost. I think the Iron Fleet tactics zone is a good way to represent their successful surprise sea attack that buoyed their land assault.

This is a fan-made scenario inspired by CMON Limited’s A Song of Ice & Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game and is in no way associated with CMON.
