The Bridge of Skulls

The Weeper is infamous beyond the Wall for his cunning and cruelty. When the watery-eyed Wildling led a war band near the Shadow Tower, it was the duty of Denys Mallister and Bowen Marsh to command the Night’s Watch during this harrowing battle above the gorge.

The Story

"[Mance Rayder] sends out several smaller raiding parties, which prompts Lord Steward Bowen Marsh to march, taking most of the fighting men still remaining at Castle Black with him, leaving only the old, the green, and the sickly behind to defend Castle Black."

Gameplay & Strategy

To simulate the cramped environment atop the Bridge of Skulls, the play area has been cut in half. This can be both a major drawback and a major benefit for the Free Folk army and will be a fun challenge for their player. The drawback is that a crafty Night’s Watch player can go full 'Spartans at Thermopylae' and create a bottleneck with their more powerful units to fight the frailer Raiders and Savages one at a time. The benefit for the Free Folk is that every unit will likely be congested in the center of a small space, so if you position yourself smartly you can attack the best Night’s Watch unit (likely Veterans) with 2 or 3 units and receive all of your attack bonuses.

Most important for the Free Folk player is that you cycle through your Tactics Card quickly to ensure you pull Endless Horde at least once (preferably twice). A returned unit can cause immediate damage with the battlefield so overcrowded and Deployment Zones this large. Don’t forget that you can move through your own units, which will help you maneuver through the tight spaces.

Many combatants fell to their death while fighting on the Bridge. Those lethal plunges are recreated in this custom scenario by subtracting -2 to any Morale Test that takes place within 6” of the Flank table edge. This could be absolutely devastating to a unit of Raiders, so be very conscious of your tray placement. On the other hand, if the Night’s Watch feels too self-assured and wanders near either edge it could cause serious damage, especially if the Weeper is in the vicinity.

This is a fan-made scenario inspired by CMON Limited’s A Song of Ice & Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game and is in no way associated with CMON.
